CIF2GDS converts the Caltech Intermediate Form (CIF) mask database to Calma's GDSII file format. The CIF format was developed as an alternative to GDSII. It has a simpler structure and is easier to develop programs to read and write CIF.
Because CIF is not "owned" by any organization, various applications implement it differently. We have attempted to adhere as closely as possible to the definitions in the book, "VSLI Circuit Design" by Carver Meade. However, when we encounter variations, we will attempt to support them as long as supporting them is consistent with the published specification.
