A customer reported a problem when trying to convert an ASCII file when our ascii2gds was launched from TCL program.
The same ASCII file translated correctly when launched using standard ascii2gds Linux command line.
Here is the error message:

Translating from compressed shape Ascii format...

Percent Done: 100%

error:  Line 1993: Could not find the ENDEL statement for a boundary.


Ascii to GDSII translation incomplete because of errors (line 1993).

Solution

The customer created the ASCII file on the fly using the TCL program, and failed to completely close it before trying to translate it to GDSII.
After closing the file, the file translated with no issues using the TCL program.
