Amkor Adopts AIF as Input to Design Center

December 2, 2000

Amkor Technology has adopted the AIF file format as the preferred input from IC designers to their design center. AIF was jointly developed by Artwork Conversion Software and Amkor as a "neutral" file that describes a chip's pad ring - it includes the pad's size, coordinates, net or signal name and destination ball or pin.

AIF enables the design center to quickly place the die into either an existing Open Tool Package or to start a custom laminate design without the need to massage the customer's data manually.

In order to speed up the adoption of AIF, Artwork has developed several software tools and a WEB site that enables chip designers to create AIF, verify it and manipulate the data.
