GDSII to STEP

GDSII is used by IC layout designers and also for other very small featured applications such as fluidics, MEMs and sensors. Occasionally, these designers have a need to transfer their layered 2D geometries into a 3D format for either analysis or simulation.

Artwork provides a path to do this as follows:

Open the GDSII in our viewer, Qckvu3.

Using the Extract3D plugin, define your stackup, select a window and export a 3Di file.

Using Artwork's 3DVU program, open the 3Di file and export STEP.

STEP can be read by virtually all 3D mechanical CAD tools and FEA simulators.
